Some things happen inexplicably. Sometimes they are things we can’t control, other times they are the consequences of our actions. Each one is beautiful and terrible in its own regards, but no matter how beautiful or tragic they are, these things happen for a reason – each with a very specific purpose.
Sir Isaac Newton was right when he said, “for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.” Most times that action involves some type of consequence, big or small, hard or easy.
For her it was something that she thought would never happen. It was a nightmare of a situation. In one instant, one decision, everything was changed. Her life was be turned upside down.
On the outside her stunning blue eyes and perfect hair told one story, but on the inside a heart full of confusion and turmoil told another. It was nothing more than normal questions that came with growing up, why this? Why that? What do I believe? Who do I want to be?
They were questions that were hard to answer, questions that would make you wonder who you really were and what you were doing – yet questions that we all have. But once again, for every action there was an equal and opposite reaction, and some lessons have to be learned the hard way…
At first things were perfect. The hugs, the kisses, the smiles. She felt on top of the world. She was exactly in the place she wanted to be. She had found a short term fix to a long term problem. She had filled gaping hole in her heart with a small bandage. We’ve all been there, we’ve all sought temporary happiness in place of lasting joy.
When she first found out it was shocking. She didn’t believe it. How could this happen? She had plans and dreams. Suddenly a stigma surrounded her, one that brought on negative and judgmental comments. She knew people would laugh at her, in many ways she felt like an embarrassment.
As she looked in the mirror a gentle tear rolled down her cheek. “Why me?” She asked, “Why me?”
Her world was suddenly crashing in around her. A wave of emotions, an overwhelming force of confusion, slowly but surely trying to wash away her foundation. In all the chaos and confusion she felt lost and alone. Yet deep inside of her something grew, something beautiful was beginning, someone that would become quite possibly her greatest blessing in life.
At the time it didn’t seem right. There was no dream wedding, no Cinderella honeymoon. Only a pregnancy test and a million decisions to make along with a million things to give up. With one simple decision her life changed forever, but that painful decision resulted in the most beautiful gift God has ever given anyone – the miracle of life.
It wasn’t the perfect situation, it wasn’t even really ideal. But out of the dark came light, after the rain came the rainbow. Unfortunately the hardest part had just begun. But like they say, the day is darkest just before the dawn.
In every situation God gives us there is a lesson for us to learn, sometimes big and sometimes small, sometimes painful and sometimes rewarding. However, whatever it is, there is a reason and a purpose. We may not see it for years to come, and there will be times that we doubt and question what that reason is, but eventually it will make sense. Eventually the sun will rise.
For the 20-year-old dreaming of being a special needs teacher, her life came to a screeching halt. But for the 20-year-old with a heart full of love, grace and forgiveness, life is just beginning – her future has simply changed and her focus shifted.
