Words describe who we are. They are our legacy. When everything else fades away, they remain. Like thread in fabric they are interwoven and connected, very similar, yet completely different.
Words are used to describe actions. They are tools that we use to bring memories to life. For most people, words are an expression. Each one is specifically chosen, each one has a special meaning, and each one conveys a particular feeling.
They are like a puzzle. We fit them together creating a beautiful, sometimes brilliant masterpiece. However, the beautiful truth about words is that there isn’t a specific format or order in which they belong.
There is no set template for writing because it is simply an expression, an expression that allows a 12 year old boy to relive the adventures of Robin Hood, or a loving soul to see into the depths of their distant love.
Words bring images to life. Words convey what we feel. Words are how we communicate.
Yet, while words are such an effective method of communication, I sometimes find myself unable to properly form my thoughts into words. You see, writing is a delicate task. A misplaced letter can change a meaning altogether, or a comma or period can change the tone of a sentence.
As a child, reading would captivate me. Words brought my imagination to life, it created in my mind a world of possibilities, endless possibilities…In the world of reading and writing anything is possible.
The power of words is sometimes misplaced and overlooked. We choose to speed read things, skim over the words, or jump straight to the end. But when we jump straight to the ending, we miss everything in between. We miss the highs and the lows and we miss the character building and the plot development.
Story telling is not a formula. Story telling is a journey that must be lived out. It is a journey that will make you laugh and make you cry. It will encourage you and it will sober you. Story telling creates legacies.
There is a uniqueness in our lives that can only be expressed through words, and it is through that expression that our legacies our shaped, and our memories preserved. Our stories are who we are, and it is through their expression that we make others believe, achieve, and live.
